The approvals you need before you can trade

Most businesses need three or four registrations beyond incorporation, each from a different authority on a different cycle. Individually straightforward; collectively the thing most often discovered late.

Licences & Registrations

Small registrations, disproportionate consequences

Incorporation makes a business exist. Licences make it able to trade. Which ones you need depends on your sector, your premises, your headcount and your turnover — and the penalty for operating without one ranges from a fine to closure of the premises.

We identify what applies to your business, obtain each registration, and put the renewal dates on the same compliance calendar as your tax filings, so that a lapsed trade licence doesn't surface during an inspection.

The service list

What we handle, end to end

Any business that manufactures, stores, transports, distributes or sells food requires FSSAI registration or licence, with the category determined by turnover and scale of operation.

We establish which category applies, prepare the documentation, file the application and handle renewals, modifications and the annual return where applicable. Getting the category right at the outset avoids a change of licence later.

MSME registration under Udyam is straightforward and unlocks a range of benefits — priority sector lending, protection under the delayed payment provisions, and eligibility for various government schemes and subsidies.

We register your enterprise under the correct classification and advise on which benefits are actually worth pursuing for a business of your size and sector.

A business name, logo or tagline is only protected once it is registered. Trading under an unregistered mark leaves you exposed to a later applicant.

We conduct the search, identify the right class or classes, prepare and file the application and respond to examination reports and objections. The search matters most — filing into a conflict wastes both the fee and the years of waiting.

Issued by the local municipal authority, a trade licence permits a business to operate from a specific premises within its jurisdiction. Required for most commercial operations and renewed annually.

We handle the application, the documentation the municipality requires and the annual renewal.

Applicable to most commercial premises employing staff, this registration is governed at state level and covers working hours, conditions and employment records.

We register your premises and advise on the record-keeping obligations that come with it.

A state levy applying both to the business as an employer and to individual professionals. Registration, periodic returns and payment obligations vary by state.

We handle enrolment, registration and the ongoing filings alongside your other statutory returns.

A DSC is required for MCA filings, income tax and GST filings, trademark applications and e-tendering. Certificates expire, and an expired one stops a filing at the worst moment.

We obtain, renew and register DSCs, and handle token management and troubleshooting.

PAN is required for the entity itself; TAN is required by anyone who deducts tax at source.

We handle applications, corrections, surrenders and the linking obligations that go with them.

Required for any business importing or exporting. We obtain and update the IEC — and where international trade is a significant part of your business, our Exim practice covers the wider DGFT and FEMA framework that goes with it.

Registrations change as businesses do — new premises, additional directors, a changed constitution, a discontinued activity.

We handle amendments and surrenders, and every renewal date goes onto your compliance calendar with a reminder ahead of it.

Common questions

Before you get in touch

It depends on sector, premises, headcount and turnover. Bring us those four things and we'll give you the list — including, often, registrations you were told you needed and don't.
Typically FSSAI in the appropriate category, a municipal trade licence, shop and establishment registration, professional tax, and GST depending on turnover. Fire and other clearances may apply depending on the premises. We'd confirm against your specific location and scale.
Considerably longer than most people expect — examination, publication and any opposition period all take time, and the process runs to a couple of years in the ordinary course. You can use the mark with the ™ symbol from filing. The search beforehand is where the real value is.
It depends which one and for how long. Most can be renewed late with additional fees, but operating without a valid trade licence or FSSAI registration carries penalties and, for food businesses, risk to the premises. Worth addressing quickly rather than at the next renewal.
For most small and medium businesses, yes — it's inexpensive and the delayed-payment protection alone can be valuable if you supply larger companies. Whether the scheme benefits are worth pursuing is a separate question that depends on your sector.
